In this article we discuss the TED talk by Allende, Castro, and Cekic, “Education Changed My Life.” Let’s also look at Cekic’s talk and Castro’s TED Talk. The purpose of TED is to share “Ideas Worth Spreading.”

Castro’s TED talk – The Power of Education – How it Changed My World

After the “Special Period” of the 1990s, Castro embraced anti-globalization and environmentalist ideas. In his TED talk, Castro details the three most important educational experiences of his life. First, he was inspired by a teacher who recognized his intelligence and provided challenging work. He went on to attend Stanford University, where he saw the difference between an education in San Antonio and one in California. He wanted to make his city a world-class city by ensuring that everyone had access to effective education.

Aside from Castro, the TED Education series features the work of other influential speakers. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, a novelist, shows how power shapes stories and warns against the danger of focusing on one story and narrowing our understanding of others. Adichie also raises important questions about identity, such as what it means to be black or white. Moreover, this talk inspires students to explore their own perspectives and those of others. Other notable TED Talks include Baratunde Thurston and Drew Dudley. Dudley shows how small acts of kindness can transform lives. He believes that leadership is all about transforming people’s understanding of the world.

Cekic’s TED talk – Rethinking Women & Higher Education

Ozlem Sara Cekic’s TED talk, “Rethinking Women & Higher Education”, is a timely reminder about how much the American higher education system still focuses on male students. While women are now attending college and are doing well in class, they are still reporting lower confidence once they leave university. Cekic says there is a “culture of hazing” in higher education, a common problem in many societies.

Allende’s TED talk

A TED talk is a wonderful resource for self-education. Not only are they high quality, but they are also inspiring. Isabel Allende’s TED talk on achieving a higher education was particularly poignant for me. She discusses the importance of pursuing an education that is fulfilling and passionate. It is a breath of fresh air for an aspiring writer to hear such advice.

Isabel Allende is a Chilean author and journalist. She is best known for her novels The House of the Spirits and City of the Beasts. She also writes memoirs and has a foundation that helps nonprofits around the San Francisco Bay Area empower women and protect their rights. Her TED talk is a powerful way to inspire young women. If you are considering going back to school, you should listen to it.
